I have same problems with outlook 2016 for shared calendars Shared mailboxes need MAPI access enabled for access via Outlook 2016 even when the associated AD account is disabled. I thought I would share this on the off chance that someone else has a similar issue: It would be nice if it had been more consistent in its behaviour (calendar items were viewable but not editable, contacts did not work at all) or if it had provided more helpful information than an assortment of vague permissions errors but that is nothing new! I've got no problem with having this turned on if it’s needed, just a little odd that it’s never been needed before for previous versions of Outlook but it is obviously something Outlook 2016 does differently to earlier versions. I could edit the calendar in the shared mailbox and access the Contacts folder successfully again.

I discovered that if I turned MAPI on for the shared mailbox, the problem was resolved. This has been the same for the last 2-3 years this mailbox has existed. In turn, as is standard on disabled/shared accounts, all Exchange mailbox features are disabled (POP3, ActiveSync, MAPI, IMAP, OWA etc). Its associated AD account is disabled as no-one should ever be logged on as the actual user. Mailbox is a bog standard user account and Exchange mailbox. What an odd issue, Outlook 2016 must be connecting via a different method to earlier versions of Outlook.

I did try on a previous install manually setting folder permissions via the right-click > Properties dialog as suggested in the error but it made no difference.

The permissions are correct and work absolutely fine in Outlook 20 plus OWA, it's just 2016 that has this issue. See the folder owner or your administrator to change your permissions." Right-click this folder, and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folder. You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. This could be temporary, but if you see it again you might want to restart Outlook.

We have an issue with shared calendars, they've been picked up from the upgrade from Outlook 2013 which is fine, they open and can be viewed but we cannot edit items in those calendars. We have an on-site Exchange 2010 SP3 server on the latest updates. In the Navigation Pane, under Shared Calendars you should now see an additional calendar with the person's name.I have an issue with Outlook 2016, I've got it running on a couple of user's PCs to test under our Office 365 Business Premium licencing (most of us are currently on Office 2013). Select the person you're looking for then click OK. In the Open a Shared Calendar dialog box, type all or part of the person's name (or their NetID). On the Home tab of the ribbon, in the Manage Calendars section, click Open Calendar, then Open Shared Calendar. Once you've done this, you'll see their calendar listed under My Calendars in the Calendar section of your Navigation Pane every time you use Outlook. To view another person's shared calendar, complete the following steps.

Depending on the level of access they've granted you, you may also be able to modify items.

As you create a meeting invitation you are able to see whether others are free or busy, but you aren't able to see any other information about their schedule (such as the meeting title, who is invited, or where it's taking place).īut if someone has chosen to share their calendar with you, you'll be able to look at the items in more detail.
